Kuroda Ningyo Joruri Theater
Kuroda Ningyo Joruri Theater
The Kuroda Ningyo Joruri Theater is dedicated to the preservation and transmission of the Kuroda Puppet Show, a traditional show with 300 years of history dating back to the Genroku era (1688-1704). This is a base facility of the "Puppet Theater City Iida" which was built for the study of puppet plays and the education of successors as well as a place for exchange and presentations for the four Ina Valley troupes.
Because it is adjacent to the "Shimo-Kuroda Suwa Shrine" and its "puppet stage", which has been designated as a national important tangible folk cultural property, the building is a Japanese-style wooden structure made of domestically produced wood, taking into consideration its surrounding environment and the atmosphere of a Japanese traditional puppet theater.
In addition, Kuroda Puppet Joruri performances are held every week and Kuroda Puppet's "kashiras(*1)",etc are displayed and stored in the museum.
*1 A Kashira is from the head to the neck of the puppet including its head movement mechanism.
